The Legendary Ryman Auditorium*
The Ryman Auditorium first opened its doors in 1892 as a vision of Captain Thomas G. Ryman. With the coming of the Grand Ole Opry show in 1943, the Ryman found its identity as the Mother Church of Country Music. In 1974, the Opry moved to its current home by the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center and left the Ryman vacant. It was not until twenty years later in 1994 that the Ryman was restored to be the national showplace that it is today. Musicians ranging from Roy Acuff to James Brown and Patsy Cline to Sheryl Crow have performed on the Ryman stage, making it a historical as well as a current-day icon for people everywhere. Schermerhorn Symphony Center
The Nashville Symphony is pleased to welcome CMA Music Festival attendees!
The highly-anticipated Schermerhorn Symphony Center, named in honor of the late Maestro Kenneth Schermerhorn who led the GRAMMY® Award-winning Nashville Symphony for 22 years, opened in September of 2006 and is home to the critically acclaimed Nashville Symphony. Schermerhorn Symphony Center is located on a full city block in downtown Nashville’s popular SoBro (South of Broadway) neighborhood and at the terminus west of the Shelby Street Pedestrian Bridge. The design of Schermerhorn Symphony Center was inspired by some of the world’s great concert halls, many of which were built in Europe in the late 19th century. Its shoebox designed 1,844-seat Laura Turner Concert Hall is one of the few halls nationwide to feature natural interior light through 30 special soundproof windows. The hall also features a custom-built concert organ, crafted by Schoenstein & Co. of San Francisco, comprised of 47 voices, 64 ranks and 3,568 pipes with three 32-foot stops that will create a lyrical sound with expressive range.
If you are getting into town a few days early, you’ll want to attend a very special concert on Tuesday, June 9th. Award winning trumpeter Chris Botti will perform with the Nashville Symphony orchestra. Botti is well-known for his magnetic stage presence and for his collaborations with Sting, Yo-Yo Ma, Gladys Knight, Burt Bacharach and other popular artists. Tickets are available now by calling 615.687.6400, online at NashvilleSymphony.org or in person at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center Box Office.
The Schermerhorn Symphony Center will hold three building tours during the week of CMA Music Festival on June 8, 10, and 12. These tours are free of charge. Tours begin
promptly at 1 p.m. from the West Atrium and last approximately 50 minutes. Please call the Schermerhorn Symphony Center Tour Hotline at 615.687.6580 for the most up-to-date information prior to your visit.
In addition, the Schermerhorn Symphony Center Café is the ideal place for lunch or a quick snack and escape the hot weather! Located at the West Lobby, the Café offers salads, sandwiches, espresso, desserts plus a hot entree available daily. The Café is open Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
